A 1950s building facing Treviso’s fish market is being renovated. The works come to a halt and the site lays abandoned for ten years, compromising a focal point of the city landscape. A new client acquires the building and asks Clinicaurbana to revise the previous project and to complete the construction. The first design element is the external staircase which can be seen above the Cagnan canal: its galvanised steel structure, standing like an insert between the ancient mill and the building, provides a glimpse of the city. The iron grating which forms the steps and landings permits one to discern the full height of the volume, thus stressing its verticality. An earlier planning approval ties the main elevation layout, therefore the design work focuses on setting back diagonally the attic floor windows, in order to obtain generous full height openings and a loggia. All the partitions are made of dry construction elements, allowing for future reconfigurations of the broad interior spaces, which enjoy much natural light and panoramic views.
