Tale of a collapse. Time flows, year after year the snow melts, the water deteriorates the timber structures, it rips grains of soil from the foundations. One tabià is mutilated, its side is lost, the stone base remains. It is decided to consolidate it with a concrete slab, perhaps tomorrow someone will rebuild the missing part. Twenty years later there is an opportunity for re-building it in order to create an annex. The principle of repairing guides the project’s logic, assimilating and cancelling architecture into the landscape, according to the procedures dictated by the Sun, the wind, the humidity. The reinstated portion retraces the missing outline thus completing the architectural unity; in time the weathering process will homogenise its larch cladding. The previously consolidated basement ensures structural independence to the new timber volume: a few centimetres’ gap separate it from the ancient portion. The intervention is declared through small variations in the openings’ layout and in the cladding: the windows shift, the external joinery is set in, the back façade is clad in metal sheets. By its side, the tabià remains abandoned as planks come loose, as breaches open waiting for a collapse, waiting for a project.

The project has been mentioned by the Premio Architettura Città di Oderzo, 18th edition 2022.
